Success Story: Jessica and Andrew

Just in time for Valentine’s Day – the story of one couple who lost weight together.

    Jessica’s Story

I’ve struggled with weight loss for the better part of my adult life and I wanted to figure out a way to control it. I realized I was getting older and I wanted to be healthy as I grew older – to decrease my risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease. 

In the past, I’ve done Weight Watchers twice – and even though I was successful both times, the weight came back on again. I’ve also tried the high protein diet – twice. Of course, everyone tries the high protein diet, but eventually, you have to eat carbs again, so then the diet fails. I’ve also done the tried-and-true: old-fashioned exercise and watching what you eat – not carefully counting calories, just watching what you eat. I’ve probably made between 5 and 7 attempts in the last 12 years or so.

What was different about losing weight this time?

Losing weight with my partner, Andrew.

Together we’ll talk about different foods and which foods are more filling and have a lower calorie amount. (They usually end up being high protein or high fiber foods, which keep you fuller longer and have the lowest amount of calories.) Andrew and I will also talk about our progress together – encourage each other to stay on course.

It’s fun to master the gadgets and Andrew likes them a lot more than I do. The fact that he got the hang of them before me is good because I probably would have given up, thinking “These gadgets are annoying and I don’t feel like wasting time on them.” In addition to MyFitnessPal and Striiv, we’re using Breezing. Breezing gives you the baseline you need to stay at. And without that information, I personally wouldn’t feel as grounded or be as sure about my strategy. I like to know I’m on the right track and doing the right thing. 

Andrew and I often say to each other that we want to keep using MyFitnessPal, Striiv, and Breezing for the rest of our lives since it makes weight management so easy and we don’t understand why we didn’t figure it out before.



How confident are you about the future?



Unlike before, I’m very confident about maintaining weight. I feel like I won’t lose focus. It would be really easy for me to get back on track because of the systems in place. I’m motivated by my future healthy self.
